Doing life ‘by the book’
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.— Joshua 1:8 NLT
With the decline in churchgoing, most of us don’t hear the Bible read and taught, so God’s word is not guarding our thoughts. A good habit to discover is reading ‘The Book’ ourselves and enjoying a daily ‘quiet time’ with the Lord to reflect on during the day. It t is the main way God encourages us and guides us.
Lord, fire up in us a passion for Your instruction and an eagerness to hear You speak through it.
Bless the work of Bible translators and publishers, the Gideons and all who are devoted to keeping Your Word in the forefront of people’s lives.
In an age of new media, of diversity and many competing beliefs, may we be effective witnesses to the success and overcoming in life that follows from knowing what You have said and following it.
May the message of the Bible have its own special attraction for churchgoers of all traditions, and may we learn how to communicate this confidently, in an age which is reluctant to be taught and distracted by many insubstantial things.
You have given us the words of life and we receive them gladly in the name of Jesus, who is the Word, and was before all things. Amen.
