A word of hope for anyone who turns to God at this time
People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious He will be when you cry for help! As soon as He hears, He will answer you.
Isaiah 30:19 NIV
Why is this a word of hope for anyone? I haven’t been to church for years...
The Bible is one of God’s ways of explaining who He is and what He is like. On one level, we can be drawn to the bits that seem like rules and regulations, do’s and don’ts. But a bit more study reveals how God does for people, far above what they deserve. He created us with free will to live as we wish, but with the desire that we would turn to Him. In sending Jesus, His Son, we could see what God was like in human form! The Holy Spirit, third person of the Trinity, is especially interested in helping us with faith and living God’s way.
This verse offers hope, because we can come to God through Jesus, we CAN ask for His help and He will help us. You don’t need the ‘right’ words or any formalities. You probably have Christian friends who are praying for you, and they will want to help you and encourage you at this time. And you can use the suggested prayer below as a starting point for your own.
Suggested prayer
Lord God, I acknowledge the saving work of Your Son Jesus on the Cross, and I come to You through Him.
Fear is knocking at my door! I’m hearing that we are in the grip of an epidemic that is beyond man’s control. Every day it seems to get worse. I’m coming to You to cry out for mercy, for this threat to be turned around. I’m asking for myself that I might be under Your gracious mercy and protection. I’m asking for my family. I’m asking You to bless and protect my neighbours and friends. I can’t talk to them or give them peace — but You can. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
